MAT Review Tips on Determine MAT Test Analogy Relationships, Exposed!

Believe me, I know how you're feeling right now.

You're angry.  Disgusted.  Outraged.  In fact, if one more person asks you how you're coming along on your MAT Review , you swear that you'll break into a nervous cold sweat.

Some people might wonder what's the big deal about it.  After all, the MAT test doesn't require taking a tough math section. Heck, the entire content of the Miller Analogies Test is composed of just that: analogies.

But as a MAT practice coach, I get it.  Standing up to dozens of MAT exam questions can seem like a real pain in the behind – especially when you know you're not going to see another analogy again in your life (at least, not one that tests you!).

So when you can't wrap your head around some of the toughest MAT test questions on this notoriously difficult analogy test, it can feel like the whole world has turned against you.

But not to worry: I'm here to help.  And thanks to this article, you won't ever run screaming from another analogy question again!

What's in a MAT Exam Analogy, Anyways?

You know the essentials about what an analogy is.  You've seen enough analogies in your MAT review to know that much!

But analogies are tricky creatures.  They can lull you into a sense of complacency and make you think that all is well.  You start feeling confident and able to tackle any analogy that comes your way.  Suddenly, they all seem so simple…

…Until you recover from the shock of seeing a staggeringly-low MAT practice test score!

You see, many people make the common mistake of approaching analogies as if they're simply synonyms or antonyms of the given word.  And in some cases, they'd be correct.  But those easy-peasy MAT test questions are few and far between.

And that leaves you staring in the face of some pretty tough MAT exam conundrums…

…Unless you know exactly what to look for, that is!

Read Between the Lines of That MAT Test Analogy!

So what do you need to look for?  Read up on these tips, try them out on your MAT practice test, and you'll discover the hidden secrets to any analogy question, no matter how hard they may seem!
  • Analogies aren't about simple synonyms or antonyms – and if it seems that way, then you've fallen prey to plenty of trick questions on the MAT test!  Instead, you need to seek out the relationships between these words.  In other words, what makes them connected?
  • Once you've found the connection, you're almost there to finding the correct answer on any analogy question.  The MAT test enjoys classifying analogies according to the following relationships: Type of Tool : Function, Occupation : Function, and Action : Reaction.  Knowing the most common relationships on the MAT exam takes a lot of the guesswork out of your MAT review!
