Victorian Four Ribbon Braid Craft Instructions

    • 1). Pin the ends of four different ribbons to the pillow with the safety pin. The ribbons can be of any length, however it is easiest to begin with ribbons that are approximately 1 foot in length.

    • 2). Lay the ribbons out so that they are flat and separated.

    • 3). Pick up the ribbon on the far left. Weave it over, under and then over the other strands. Pull gently to tighten. Take the next strand that is now furthest to the left and weave it to the right. Pull to tighten, keeping the tension even. Repeat this until the ends of the ribbons are reached. The entire braid is woven from the furthest left ribbon.

    • 4). Tie off the ends with an overhand knot or stitch the ribbons together. Make a loop with the braid at the end of the ribbons. Pass the ribbon ends through the loop and pull to tighten. This can also be done at the top of the braid after it is unpinned. If you choose to stitch your ribbon together, you can either hand stitch it or use a sewing machine. Use a basic running stitch, as you would if mending a hem or sewing a seam.
