Get Started with Curating Your Own Flipboard Magazines
Flipboard is one of the most popular and by far best news reader apps out there, allowing you to customize your entire reading experience while also giving you a clean and gorgeous magazine-style layout for you to easily browse and consume content.
Before Magazines were launched by Flipboard in 2013, users could view content by topic, or according to what was being shared within their networks on Facebook and Twitter.
Today, curating your own magazines and subscribing to ones from other users is now one of the best ways to customize your Flipboard and discover new content related to you personal interests.
Although Flipboard does support the desktop, the mobile experience is where it ultimately shines. This step-by-step tutorial will show you how to use the mobile apps to curate your own magazines and discover other magazines from within the Flipboard community.
To get started, first download the the free app to your smartphone or tablet. It's available for iOS, Android, Windows Phone and even Blackberry.

Access Your User Profile
If you're completely new to using Flipboard, you'll be asked to create a new user account and then you may be taken through a short tour of the app. You'll likely be asked to select a few interests from a list of topics as well, so Flipboard can deliver stories that are most relevant to you.
Once your account is all set up, you can use the menu at the bottom of the screen to navigate through the five main tabs.
Since you want to make a magazine, you'll need to tap the user profile icon, located to the far right on the menu.
On this tab, you'll see your name and profile photo along with the number of articles, magazines and followers you have. Magazines and their thumbnails will appear in a grid below this information.
Create a New Magazine
To create a new magazine, simply tap the gray thumbnail labeled "New." You'll be asked to give your magazine a title and an optional description.
You can also choose whether you want your magazine to be public or private. If you want other Flipboard users to be able to view, subscribe to and even contribute to your magazine, leave the private button off.
Tap "Create" in the top right corner when you're done.
A dark gray thumbnail with the title of your newly created magazine will appear on your profile tab.
Add Articles to Your Magazine
Right now, your magazine is empty. You'll need to add content to your magazine, and there are a couple of different ways that you can do that.
While browsing: You may come across an article while you're casually browsing content from the home tab or topic tab that you'd like to add to your magazine.
While searching: Using the search tab, you can enter any words or terms to really zero in on something specific.
Results will list top result topics, who you're already following, sources, magazines and profiles related to your search.
Regardless of how you stumble across an article you want to add to your magazine, every article will have a plus sign button (+) at the bottom right corner of every article. Tapping it brings up a new "Flip into" menu, which lets you see all your magazines.
Before you add it, you can write an optional description using the field at the bottom. Tap your magazine to instantly add the article to it.
View and Share Your Magazine
Once you've added a few articles to your magazine, you can go back to your profile and tap the magazine to view it and flip through its contents. If your magazine is public, other users will be able to tap the "Follow" button in the top right corner to subscribe to it on their own Flipboard accounts.
To share or edit your magazine, tap the squared arrow button at the top. From here, you can change the cover photo, copy the web link or even delete the magazine.
You can add as many articles as you want to your magazine, and you can create as many new magazines as you'd like, for different topics and interests.
Some of the best Flipboard magazines have many contributors and lots of content. If your magazine is public and know somebody who'd be a good contributor, you can invite them add to content to your magazine.
On the front of the magazine cover, there should be an icon that looks like two users beside a plus sign at the top of the screen. Tapping it will pull up an email draft with an invitation link to send.
Now that you know how to make your Flipboard magazines, you can follow more magazines by searching for existing ones that have been curated by other users.
From your profile tab, tap the button with the user icon and plus sign in the top left corner. This is where you can find people and magazines to follow.
Using the top menu, you can browse through magazine makers, people you're connected with on Facebook, people you follow on Twitter, and people in your contacts.
Pressing "Follow" beside a person's name or at the top right of their profile will follow all of their magazines.
To follow individual magazines, tap a user's profile and then tap one of their magazines. To follow it, just tap "Follow" on the magazine itself. The contents of the magazines you decide to follow will show up as you browse Flipboard, however only the magazines you create or contribute to will appear on your profile.
