Multi-Level Marketing (MLM) or Network Marketing is a great way to have a home based business.
But a lot of people are turned off by being advised that they need to bother their family and friends.
Then there is the old 3 foot rule that you should pitch your deal to anyone that you come in contact.
May work for a few but not for the majority.
Another worn out technique is making a list of everyone you know and contacting them.
Once again that will just alienate those people.
In regards to your family and friends, they may be open to the products that you have and therefore become a customer, before they will ever entertain the idea of joining your company.
One hopefully learns quickly that it much better to engage with people that have asked for information about a home business.
Many MLM give their distributors a website to use.
The problem with these websites is, it is very hard to optimize them for search engine results.
They are replicated websites so you have the same one as someone else.
Many companies do not allow you to create your own website for the products and business.
All is not lost though.
You can create websites that have general business information and have them link to a particular page.
This concept of having many sites works best in a team environment because work items can be delegated to the people who have those particular skills.
You can use your replicated company website as part of a funnel.
You first build a blog, a squeeze page, an optin page, a Squidoo Lens or other pages that give a person general information about your business or products.
When people ask for more information you can send them to your company websites for more information.
If you want to wait further before sending them to your replicated websites you can make sure they optin to your list and send them 7-9 autoresponder messages with information about your business.
The autoresponder messages can have links directing interested people to your replicated sites.
By having your own blog or website, you can brand yourself.
People can get to know you, first.
People join with other people rather than join a company they know nothing about.
The Internet has radically changed the way MLM is done.
Having Skype, a free or inexpensive phone/messaging platform, allows you to communicate with anyone who also has Skype.
You can have conversations with people from around the world and get to know them one on one.
That was not possible ten years ago.
MLM is all about creating relationships and that part of it has not changed.
With today's Internet technologies you can just do it faster without having to leave your home.
Finally, a big fallacy that has been fostered is that people will build a MLM for you.
This cannot be further from the Truth.
You have to be willing to work hard and do what it takes to be successful.
It does help to be part of a team that works for everyone to reach goals set.
Delegation is much better than duplication.
By delegating tasks to the people who have those skills you have a much better business model than making people duplicate everything that works for you.
The team can accomplish a lot more than the individual can.
